KATHMANDU, Aug 9: The International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples is being observed today by organizing several programs.
To mark the day, indigenous people gathered at Bhrikutimandap and a march was organized from Bhrikutimandap to Maitighar Mandala in the capital. Hundreds of people representing various indigenous communities participated in the march.
On this occasion, the Indigenous Commission organized a program at Baneshwor today.
Likewise, Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) also hosted a program at the Nepal Academy this afternoon.
On 23 December 1994, the United Nations General Assembly decided, in its resolution 49/214, that the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People shall be observed on 9 August every year.
