KATHMANDU, March 17: The Government of Nepal is set to invite over 350 special guests from around the world for the upcoming Sagarmatha Sambaad.
During a press conference held on Sunday, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amrit Rai, provided details about the Sagarmatha Sambaad and mentioned that they expect the participation of 150 to 175 heads of state.
It was announced that invitations for the upcoming sambaad, scheduled to be held in Kathmandu from May 16 to 18, 2025, have been sent through Nepali embassies abroad and various foreign embassies in Nepal.
Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal, Ek Narayan Aryal, stated that the Sagarmatha Sambaad is being organized with the goal of positioning Nepal as a leader on issues related to the Himalayas and climate change. According to him, Nepal will prioritize raising its voice on the damage it has suffered due to environmental degradation at international forums, advocating for the recognition of the Loss and Damage rights.
On the first day of the Sagarmatha Sambaad, discussions will focus on urgent actions needed for glacier conservation, the relationship between high mountain regions and islands, food security, and agricultural revitalization.
The second day will review efforts to mitigate climate-related disasters, rebuild, and protect the mountains. On the third day, participants will be taken on a special flight to explore the Everest region. The government has given high priority to the Sagarmatha Sambaad and has intensified preparations to ensure its timely completion.
