KATHMANDU, June 18: Minister for Home Sudan Gurung on Thursday said the government has prioritised monsoon-induced disaster management, focusing on citizen safety and rescue operations over formal inspections.
Speaking to the media, he said the government will continue positive practices from previous administrations while strengthening disaster response efforts this year.
He said a special app has been developed to track construction equipment such as dozers in real time, enabling quick mobilisation to clear blocked roads caused by floods or landslides. Gurung said the system will help ensure faster response and improve disaster management efficiency.

Meanwhile, Minister Gurung also directed security chiefs to strengthen disaster preparedness during a high-level meeting at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority on the same day.
He stressed the need to shift focus from post-disaster response to pre-disaster preparedness, criticising the traditional reactive approach.
Gurung reiterated his stance against the misuse of helicopters during disaster inspections, stating that only rescue personnel should be allowed to use them. He added that he would not use helicopters for such purposes.
He further called for high alert in vulnerable areas and stronger coordination among agencies, saying effective teamwork is essential to prevent loss of life during disasters.
Senior officials from security agencies and disaster management bodies attended the meeting.
