KATHMANDU, March 12: The government has called for a tender for the construction of the BP Highway six months after it was heavily damaged by floods.
The flood that occurred last mid-September had washed away nearly 12 kilometers of the road. Since then, the government has not been able to proceed with its reconstruction due to difficulties in finding funding sources.
On Wednesday, the Road Division Office, Sindhuli invited bids for the reconstruction of the damaged road. Engineer Sudarshan Upreti said that the Road Division has invited bids in the first phase to construct a 5-kilometer road from Nepalthok to Shere Khola.
The deadline for submitting applications for the first phase of the contract will be 30 days. Following that, the technical and financial evaluation will be carried out and the contract agreement is expected to be finalized within about two months.
The government has allocated a budget of over Rs 1 billion for this section and the work for this contract must be completed within two years.
According to Upreti, the contracts for the other three sections will also be called this week, which are being overseen by the Road Division Office in Bhaktapur. The government has allocated a budget of Rs 8.5 billion for the construction of all sections of the damaged road.
