KATHMANDU, July 14: The main accused of Gothatar shooting incident, Ratna Lama, 47, has been arrested, five months after the incident that left an 8-year-old child killed in Bhaktapur.
Police arrested Lama from Kavre on Wednesday morning. Police arrested him immediately after he came out from the Kavre district office of the UCPN (Maoist) where he attended a meeting. Lama was brought to Kathmandu from Kavre on Wednesday itself.
Lama, a contractor by profession, is said to have been close to the Maoists and is an advisor to the Maoists´ district committee.
Eight-year-old Santosh Karki, a second grader at Bhimeshwar Academy, was killed in the shooting carried out by Lama´s group over the petty neighborhood dispute on January 20.
Palden Lama, 24, the son of Ratna Lama, was also arrested as an accused on January 29. Palden and two other accused in the incident have been sent to judicial custody.
