FCAN AGM kicks off

KATHMANDU, Sep 9: The 14th annual general meeting (AGM) of Federation of Contractors Association of Nepal (FCAN) kicked off in Kathmandu on Friday.

Inaugurating the AGM, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar hailed the role of contractors in the development of the country.[break]

He also promised package programs to resolve programs facing the country´s construction sector. “Insecurity, extortion and prevailing hooliganism are the major problems that contractors across the country are facing. I will try my best to give contractors across the country a sense of relief,” he added.

Gachchhadar also sought the cooperation of the contractors for effective implementation of e-bidding.

The three-day AGM will also elect FCAN´s new leadership. As per the election schedule, candidates are required to file their names on Saturday. Election for the new executive will be held on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Yaksha Dhoj Karki, president of FCAN, said the construction sector was facing several challenges despite its significant contribution in employment generation, because the government lacks clear vision for the sector.

He also requested the government for timely revisions in policies to boost the morale the construction sector.
