KATHMANDU, Feb 6: The Duke of Edinburgh met participants of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award in Kathmandu, highlighting its impact on Nepalese youth.

Established in Nepal for a decade, the program has benefited over 6,000 young people with lifelong skills and experiences, supported by 500 volunteers, the British Embassy said in a press release.

At the British Embassy, the Duke awarded 19 young Nepalis with the prestigious Gold Award, recognizing their dedication and self-development. He also met participants from diverse backgrounds, including government schools, Scouts, SOS Children’s Villages, and underprivileged communities supported by the Award Foundation.

Later, at a reception hosted by UK Ambassador Rob Fenn, the Duke and Duchess engaged with over 200 guests, focusing on youth initiatives and UK-Nepal relations. A new expedition initiative in the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area was also announced, supporting ten young people in local school projects and red panda conservation.
