CNP earned Rs 99.6m last fiscal

CHITWAN, July 25: Chitwan National Park (CNP) has earned Rs 99.60 million in the last fiscal year. It had earned around Rs 83.10million in fiscal year 2009/10 from tourists from entrance fee and elephant ride among other tourism activities.



An officer at CNP, Tikaram Paudel, said that the park earned Rs 64.7 million from entry fee alone and Rs 144 million was the royalty paid by the six hotels that were operating inside the park.[break]



According to Paudel more than 170,000 visitors came to the park out of which 112,853 were foreign tourists.



Out of 10 different entry points of the park, highest numbers entered through Sauraha entrance. The other entry points include Sunasari and Khagendramalli in East, Ghatgai, Kasar, Bhimle, Aamaltari, Laukhani, Kujauli and Bankatta in the west.



Bufferzone Development Committee uses the revenue to pay compenastions to locals who are injured in attack by wild animals or lose their livestock to animal attacks, and for development and conservation works among other things.
