KATHMANDU, Nov 30: The Constitutional Council (CC) failed to initiate process for making recommendations to the vacant posts at the Election Commission (EC) as leader of the main opposition party remained absent in its meeting on Sunday.
The meeting was held briefly as NC President Sushil Koirala, leader of the main opposition party, did not attend the meeting citing health-related reasons, said committee member and Deputy Speaker Ganga Prasad Yadav.
The meeting of the CC was expected to initiate recommendations for appointments to the chief election commissioner and two other commissioners of the EC.With the retirement of Nilkantha Upreti, Ram Bhakta Thakur and Dolakh Bahadur Gurung, the EC has been run by only two commissioners.
