Candidate opens fire at YAN election after defeat

KATHMANDU, Dec 31: Tension ran high at Nayabazaar in the capital on Saturday during the election of CPN- UML affiliated Youth Association of Nepal (YAN) on Saturday after a defeated candidate started indiscriminately firing into the crowd.

Furba Lama, who was defeated in the election for constituency No 7, Kathmandu, fired three shots from a Chinese Pistol. [break]

No human casualties have been reported, informed DSP Dhiraj Pratap Singh, Spokesperson at Metropolitan Police Circle, Kathmandu.

The election was held at Nayabazaar. Jog Gurung and Furba Lama had registered candidacy for the post of YAN chairman.

Furba took out his pistol and opened fire alleging the election was rigged.

Police said investigation into the incident is on.
