Bishwakarmas profiting from new furnace

NUWAKOT, May 18: A majority of marginalized Bishwakarma people living at Kaule VDC of Nuwakot district have reaped huge benefits from metal works after the installation of a modern furnace in their community. Small Scale Industry Development Program operating under Nuwakot District Development Committee had provided funds for bringing the new furnace.

Now, making and honing axes, khukuris and other metal tools, and making window-grills can be done easily and time efficient manner, informed the chief of the community Bhim Bahadur BK. [break]

"This machine has the ability to make and hone iron weapons and tools quickly and with much less effort," said BK.

"The main specialty of this machine is its high fidelity and speed. Moreover, the hassle of burning coal for heating the furnace is gone," added BK.

Around 58 Bishwakarma families have benefited from the new furnace and people from several neighboring VDCs like Fhikuri, Manakamana, Salma, and Bhalche come here for metal items, shared a local.

"We will also provide training to the locals on metalwork in the coming days to enable them to be self-employed," said Arjun Bhattari, a member of the Association of Nuwakot Small Scale Industry Entrepreneurs.
