A Direct Confrontation for a New Global Order has Begun

The term New Global Order is used by certain blocks of countries in several conspiracy theories that hypothesize an unexpectedly emerging totalitarian world government. The main theme in the conspiracy theories about the New Global Order, being interconnected with a secretive power elite with a globalist agenda, is to rule the world through an authoritarian one-world government—which will degrade other weaker sovereign states. Several influential and contemporary figures have been alleged to be part of a cabal that operates through many front organizations to orchestrate significant political and financial events, ranging from causing systemic crises to pushing through controversial policies at both national and international levels, as steps in an ongoing plot to achieve world dominance.

Political figures such as Woodrow Wilson and Winston Churchill used the term "new world order" to refer to a new period of history characterized by a dramatic change in world political thought and the global balance of power after World War I and II. The end of the war was seen as an opportunity to implement idealistic proposals for global governance through collective efforts to address worldwide problems that go beyond the capacity of individual nation-states to resolve them.

These initiatives manifested in the formation of intergovernmental organizations such as the League of Nations in 1920, the United Nations (UN) in 1945, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in 1949, along with international regimes such as the Bretton Woods system and the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), implemented to maintain a cooperative balance of power and facilitate reconciliation between nations to prevent the prospect of another global conflict.

However, as a new world order, the dismantling process of the post-1945 political order has begun by replacing it with hardliners and those struggling for economic gains. Previously, such tendencies were visible only in a limited number of less powerful socialist and democratic countries. However, in recent years, the new trend is spreading in many new powerful countries, and after Donald Trump’s rise to power in the United States this year, the tide has turned from its previous liberal democratic norms, which hardly suit America.

The term liberal democracy, also called Western-style democracy or substantive democracy, is a form of government that combines the organization of a democracy with ideas of liberal political philosophy. Contrary to it, when a closed group of people in politics, having an absolute influence, demolishes the essence of liberal democracy and the government functions merely on a number game in parliament, it is called oligarchy, which Donald Trump is following in his second term as president.

Beginning with his 2016 campaign, Trump's politics and rhetoric led to the creation of a political movement known as Trumpism , ‘’Make America Great Again’’. His political positions are populist, more specifically described as right-wing populist. Many of his actions and rhetoric have been described as rigid and contributing to democratic backsliding. Trump pushed for an expansion of presidential power under a maximalist interpretation of the unitary executive theory. His political base has been compared to a cult of personality.

In extraordinary scenes at the UN, America sided with Russia and North Korea against Ukraine and Europe. Trump believes that America can partially or fully abandon Europe and perhaps its Asian allies, too. He says it has a “beautiful ocean as a separation." However, wars now involve space and cyberspace, so physical distance offers even less protection than it did in 1941, when Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor ended America’s isolationism. Team Trump claims that America will turn its superpower status into profit.

The wake-up calls from Donald Trump to Canada, Greenland, Panama, Gaza, and Ukraine are serious messages for the risky and uncertain future of smaller and weaker nations. Statement made by Trump on Canada as the 51st state of the US seems to be more economic than political as a “real thing,” aimed at obtaining Canada’s critical minerals rather than annexing it.

Greenland holds a strategic interest for the US — there’s already an American airbase on the island — since its location is increasingly important as the Arctic ice melts and amid greater competition from Russia and China. Panama has been in America’s imperialistic sights more often than Greenland, and was even invaded by the US forces in 1989.

The $ 500 bn US-Ukraine deal on Ukrainian minerals couldn't  become successful due to huge differences in both the countries. It is unclear if America will offer security guarantees in return.

A direct confrontation between Trump and Zelensky, during a meeting in the Oval Office, seems to be a critical turning point in the changing global power dynamics. In a news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump mused about an American takeover of the Gaza Strip by removing its occupants to neighboring countries and developing the region as a seaside resort.

Vladimir Putin also wants to restore Russia as a great imperial power. Muhammad bin Salman wants to modernize the Middle East and fend off Iran. Xi Jinping is both a committed communist and a nationalist who wants a world fit for a strong China. The borders of Israel, Lebanon and Syria have been blurred by protracted wars. Some outside powers are indifferent to this. Yet Mr Trump has set his eyes on Gaza, as well as Greenland and in any Sino-American talks, Mr Xi could bid for territory, too, for example offering to limit exports in return for concessions on Taiwan, the South China Sea or the Himalayas.

The new global power order has undervalued the importance of  current global issues of developing world, such as  pandemic, poverty, disease, malnutrition, child abuse, child mortality, global education, hunger and food security. Similarly, environmental disaster, societal collapse, regional conflict, migration, human rights and water scarcity are also pressing issues, which are severely affecting developing nations and these issues are getting less attention from developed nations. Under developing nations, low-income countries and lower-middle income countries seem to be more vulnerable compared to upper-middle income countries and high income countries. The developing nations associated with the BRICS could be a new power block in the changing new global power scenario.

Donald Trump has certainly taken big risks both in domestic and external affairs. Mass layoffs of the federal employees, huge deportation of illegal immigrants, drastic cutoff in federal spendings and policy to impose reciprocal rate of tariffs on import of goods from other countries seem to be more challenging and risky for the Trump administration. On the external side, trying to collaborate with the Russian block and starting to break relations with long standing allies would also change the global equation in power balances. Rising closeness between the US and Russia would be a sad message for China. These major shifts in policy of the US and other powerful countries could destabilize the international peace and order by making the world more dangerous, and America weaker in global power positions.
