Four years ago, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus took the world by storm. New entrants into the smartphone market, the company disrupted it by providing phones as good as flagships by other well-known companies at a price point that resonated with most average smartphone buyers. Exceptional build-quality, top-notch specification, smooth software at a price-point that undercut all of its competitors, however, came at a price; and that price was subdued marketing strategies, smart inventory control and a refined production cycle. But regardless of all of these company compromises, the users always benefitted as a result. This was also part of how a small smartphone company operating out of Shenzhen, China, created a market for itself all over the world.

My friend and I left for Markhu village located in Makwanpur District in the Narayani Zone of southern Nepal on our scooters on a rainy Thursday despite me being hounded by bad memories of roads with lots of puddles and dirt from my last trip to the place a while back. Even back then, the roads till Pharping were pretty good but after we took a right to get to Markhu, the ride got bumpy and uncomfortable. This time around, however, I was surprised to see that the roads were all black-topped and riding the scooter was fairly easy.

People still remember Uniq Poet (Utsaha Joshi) from the Raw Barz battle. His quick wit and swift flow against some of the older and more prominent rappers made quite an impression back then and even now, he is being asked to represent Nepali hip hop on various platforms. Just recently, he was part of the team that flew to Sydney for the Yama Buddha tribute. It was apparently his second Australia trip for a concert. But he still insists that he is a student moonlighting as a rapper, though plans to fully pursue music are in the offing.
