EC waiting for details from Bharatpur

KATHMANDU, May 29: The Election Commission (EC) is waiting for details from returning officer on how to move ahead in completing vote counting of Bharatpur Metropolitan City.

CHITWAN, May 29: Nepal Police SP Deepak Thapa, the chief of Chitwan District Police Office, confirmed that two cadres of CPN (Maoist Center) are arrested for tearing ballot papers during the vote count of Chitwan Metropolitan City.

EC opening election office in all local units today

KATHMANDU, May 28: As part of its final preparations to conduct the second round of local elections on June 14, the Election Commission (EC) is setting up returning officers" office in all 461 local units in the four provinces on Monday.

CPN-UML candidate Bidya Sundar Shakya was elected mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) on Sunday, defeating his nearest rival Raju Raj Joshi of Nepali Congress. With Shakya all set to assume the top post in the country"s largest city, Republica"s Gyan P. Neupane talked with him about his vision and his plans to make the capital “a beautiful, safe, prosperous and lively city” as promised in the election manifesto. Excerpts:
