COVID 19: Let's act wisely

KATHMANDU, March 25: Hours after the second coronavirus case confirmed in Kathmandu on March 23, the government said that the entire country would be under complete shutdown from the early next morning. Amid coronavirus outbreak fears, the government imposed the week-long lockdown to prevent people from stepping out of their homes and risking contagion.

Nepal is on a weeklong nationwide lockdown from today. The second confirmed case of COVID-19 has been reported. People are panicking. Groceries are getting emptied. Government agencies, health workers and security bodies are working to tackle this deadly novel virus. All the government and private offices are closed except those who run essential services.

Although, the COVID-19 was originated in the Wuhan city of our neighboring China, it has not spread to our country so far. We are lucky in this sense. Southern neighbor India recently has reported about the outbreak of COVID-19 and the number of people being infected is rising. So, there is no doubt that today or tomorrow we will soon witness the same condition in our country. Are we really prepared ?
