In our country, almost all controversial events or decisions are investigated. Although such incidents are examined by probe committees, their reports are rarely publicized, denying the ordinary public access to the findings. This tendency by political leadership reduces the committees to mere ploys for covering up crimes.

It is said that the word 'impossible' is only in the dictionary of fools. From flying airplanes to developing radios, from constructing undersea roads to enabling space travel, everyone has proven this. The Supreme Court of India has used its extraordinary powers to set aside its own judgment of 2021 and relieve the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) of an exorbitant burden of ₹7,687 crore in a dispute with a former concessionare.

In the last month or so, ever since the State Bank of India was compelled by the Supreme Court of India to release information on donations via electoral bonds to political parties, emerging details have only confirmed the worst fears of naysayers in regulatory and policy-making institutions about the scheme before it was introduced by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in 2018.

A meeting convened by Speaker Devraj Ghimire with the top leaders of the four major political parties concluded inconclusively on Monday. The meeting ended without reaching a consensus after the ruling parties rejected the demand put forth by the main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) to form a parliamentary probe committee to investigate Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane’s involvement in cooperatives scam.

Unsurprisingly, the World Bank has given a pessimistic prognosis of Pakistan’s moribund economy. On Tuesday, it said the country’s economic growth is expected to pick up — slightly — from the current fiscal year (after contracting 0.2pc last year) but would remain below 3pc for the next two years as “policy constraints to sustainable economic growth remain unaddressed”.
