Every evening at the Pashupatinath temple one can see hundreds of people sitting on the stone steps facing the banks of the river Bagmati waiting for the aarati to start. The light from the oil lamps makes the entire riverside shine with a coppery red glow. A ritual that started 12 years ago, the Pashupatinath Bagmati aarati draws in people of all ages who come to take in the grandeur well ahead of the scheduled time.

Nana’s Delights, an artisan bakery located in Patan Dhoka in Lalitpur, has cakes, chocolates, and cookies (in interesting shapes and designs) that are unlike anything you have ever had before. We guarantee that. Funny thing is Aakash Nath Pyakuryal, founder of Nana’s Delight, claims that until about a year ago, they never even thought about making desserts.

All of us remember going through pages of coloring books when we were young. There are also coloring books for adults that people use to lower stress and anxiety. Most of the coloring books available in Nepal are ones that have sketches and drawings of different characters and things that are prevalent in western countries. But Laibary Publication came out with Color Nepal that is a collective effort of Laibary and eight different Nepali artists to bring out a coloring book that people of Nepal can relate to.

Endeavors of compassion

Prativa Khadka celebrated this year’s Valentine’s Day with the kids of Shree Pragatishil High School in Nuwakot. She didn’t bring them chocolates or roses but got them school bags instead. And, for them, that was the best gift of all. Most of these children came from very low-income groups and were discriminated for belonging to working-class families. They had a single set of clothes to wear to school and tatters for school bags. Prativa learnt of their misfortunes and reached out to the school to offer help.

Bike racing is a sport that is believed to have a lot of scope in Nepal. It’s considered an epitome of adventurous sports with its history dating back to the 1890s. However, it’s only in the recent years that mountain biking has come into the spotlight for Nepali youths. Moreover, there are only a handful of female bikers in Nepal as of now. But 23-year-old Nishma Shrestha, a mountain bike racer, is creating waves on the mountain biking front, winning international accolades. She won the 2018 Asian Enduro series and has also participated in various national competitions.
