Ruling coalition forms task force to discuss MCC ratification

KATHMANDU, Dec 20: The ruling coalition has formed a three-member task force to discuss and reach a conclusion on the US Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact agreement with other political parties.

The decision was reached during a meeting of the ruling coalition convened by Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Sunday. The task force includes senior CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Jhala Nath Khanal, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki and Vice Chairman of the CPN-Maoist Center Narayan Kaji Shrestha.

The meeting was attended by senior NC leader Ram Chandra Poudel, Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, CPN (Maoist Central) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Vice Chairman Shrestha, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal and General Secretary Veduram Bhusal, Federal Chairperson of Janata Samajwadi Party, Dr Baburam Bhattarai and Chairperson Upendra Yadav.

Shortly after the meeting of the five-party ruling coalition, a separate meeting of the political parties represented in  federal parliament was held on Sunday. Advocate Keshav Raj Joshi, legal expert of Prime Minister Deuba, said that the meeting focused on ending the stalemate seen in parliament and other concurrent political issues including ratification of MCC agreement through parliament.
