KATHMANDU, July 13: The US Agency for International Development (USAID) will provide an additional $700,000 to Tilganga Eye Center to purchase commodities and equipment for its Institute of Ophthalmology, USAID said in a statement on Monday. It has provided $3.9 million since 2003 which has helped purchase commodities and equipment for the eye center.

Dr Carolyn Coleman, Acting Director of USAID/Nepal, is confident that the hospital will make excellent use of the facilities for the benefit of all Nepalis. “With the additional funding, the goal of building a state-of-the-art refractive surgery can now be realized,” he says.

The Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology was built in partnership with more that 15 donor nations, with USAID providing a significant portion of assistance.
