KATHMANDU, Jan 14: With the objective to help make Chinese language and culture familiar to Nepalis, Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University organized a three-day workshop for local Chinese language teachers in Kathmandu.
According to Director at the Confucius Institute Zhang Bing, the workshop focused on providing training to local Chinese language teachers on ways to teach Chinese language and pronunciation of Chinese words in an effective manner. [break]The workshop also aims to impart knowledge on the way of writing Chinese alphabets and relation of each Chinese word with Chinese culture.
Altogether 30 local Chinese language teachers had participated in the workshop that concluded on Monday. "This type of workshop needs to be organized even in the days ahead as it will be helpful to learn each other´s culture and traditions through language," said Dr Harischandra Shah, the president of Nepal-China Culture and Academic Council.
The number of Nepalis learning Chinese since 1980 in Nepal has reached to around 30,000. Chinese language was taught at the Campus of International Languages (Bishwa Bhasa Campus) in Kathmandu before Confucius Institute was established at Kathmandu University a few years ago.
