March 1, 1998: Titanic grosses $1 billion

Titanic became the first film to earn more than 1 billion US $ worldwide. Though it was produced with a budget of just 200 million US $, this James Cameron directorial was able to earn around 2 billion US $ in aggregate.

March 3, 2002: Swiss vote to become a member of the United Nations

After decades of remaining a neutral member of the United Nations, Switzerland held a national ballot on this day to know the view of its citizens. 54.6% of the people voted in favor of becoming a member of the United Nations.

March 4, 2007: World’s first internet parliamentary election

 It was the first time any country allowed its citizens to vote in the parliamentary election through the World Wide Web.  Estonia made a revolutionary record by allowing its citizens to vote via electronic ID-card.

March 7, 1876:  Patent for the telephone

The famous scientist and engineer Alexander Graham Bell received a patent for his invention of the telephone on this day.
