DANG, Aug 13: The Tharuhat Swayatta Rajya Prishad, Dang, an ethnic organization of the Tharu people, has stopped contracts and transaction related to the buying and selling of natural resources in the district.

As a result, all contracts for quarrying of stones and buying and selling of other natural products have been stalled for a week in the district.

Tharuhat Swayatta Rajya Parishad, Dang, has been waging a movement for a week now calling for ensuring the rights of the indigenous people on the ownership and use of water, land and forest.

The Parishad has been demanding that the indigenous nationalities should have 50 percent stake over the natural resources of the district.

The economic activities related to the construction business have declined after the ban on contracts dealing with the use of natural resources.
