KATHMANDU, March 20: Former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala´s demise on Saturday hasn´t left the sports sector untouched. Scheduled sports programs have come to a halt following Koirala´s demise.
Deepak Bista´s felicitation program that was to be held on Saturday was rescheduled for March 27 after the news of the demise broke out. The organizer Lions and Leo Club of Kathmandu Horizon was in no mood for celebration. “How can we celebrate at this tragic moment,” said Bista. The club was supposed to hand over a cash prize of Rs 500,000 to Bista at Marshyangdi Hotel, Thamel. [break]
Meanwhile, All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) postponed Sunday´s matches of the ongoing Martyrs Memorial San Miguel A Division League. The ANFA announced that the matches were postponed as the government had declared a national mourning.
Likewise, Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF)´s sixth general assembly scheduled to be held on Sunday was postponed until further notice. Niranjan Rajbanshi, president of NSJF, said on Saturday that the general assembly was postponed to mourn the death of the great leader.
