Smart Telecom launches services

KATHMANDU, Nov 26: Minister for Information and Communications Shankar Pokharel on Thursday inaugurated Smart Sat, a telephone service provided by Smart Telecom Pvt Ltd.[break]

The company has got permission to operate its services in 398 VDCs in four development regions, except the eastern development region of the country. The company said it will launch landline services by using VSAT technology in 100 VDCs and wireless service through GSM technology in the rest of the VDCs.

Pokharel launched the service by talking to Makwanpur LDO Bhuwan Prasad Bhatta who was in Ward No 3 of Sisneri VDC of Makawanpur.

Smart Telecom is the sixth telephone service providing company in Nepal.

Inaugurating the service, Pokharel called the company to abide by the terms and conditions and the government would also extend support if the company followed the terms.

He said the trend for rush to launch the service in the beginning and negligence in maintaining the quality then after must end. He also suggested the company for service diversification.

Secretary at the ministry Sushil Ghimire said Smart Telecom would help the government’s target to take telephone service to all VDCs across the country.

He said public-private partnership can be instrumental to provide cheap and quality services to the people.

CEO of the company Subas Bajracharya said the company is launching voice telephone and data services.

The company was established with joint investment of Lal Sahu Distribution Pvt Ltd, Singapore; Square Network Pvt Ltd, Nepal; and Gillat Sattelite Network.
