Inaugurating the 27th Himalaya-Karakoram-Tibet (HKT) Workshop on Wednesday President Yadav expressed concern over the negative impact on the human development resulting from disturbance in the ecosystem due to floods, landslides and soil erosion following environmental degradation and deforestation.[break]
The international workshop will discuss ways of reducing the impact on Asia region including in the Himalaya region due to climate change and global warming, and the maximum utilization of resources.
Stating that hydroelectricity is the main source of sustainable development of Nepal, the President stressed that the big hydroelectricity projects should pay attention to protecting the environment.
The Head of State emphasized carrying out research and mine exploration through new technology in the fragile mountain region.
He also expressed that organization of this important international seminar in the country is laudable.
Some 260 geologists from 19 countries including Nepal, India, China, America, Great Britain, Japan, Bangladesh and Russia are participating in the three-day workshop organized by Nepal Geological Society and the Department of Mines and Geology.
The workshop will discuss 156 working papers on various topics, according to the organizers.
