KATHMANDU, May 22: Two-wheelers with displacement in excess of 200 cc are becoming very popular in Nepal thanks to growing craze of heavier and more powerful bikes. Though powerful Japan-made bikes are also available in Nepal, bikes made in India are more popular among users.

Indian two-wheelers are popular in Nepal due to easy availability of spare parts and fuel quality and other factors like similar roads and climatic conditions in Nepal and India. Earlier, motorbike dealers in the country used to import power bikes from countries other than India. [break]

"We used to face problems while importing bikes from third countries due to environment and pollution standard set by the government. We had to discontinue the practice because it was too troublesome," Dinesh Shrestha, manager of Hero Honda at Syakar Company, said.

Hero Honda´s Karizma ZMR, which was launched by Syakar about four months ago, has been doing well in Nepali market. ZMR goes from 0 to 60 km per hour in just 3.7 seconds, according to Syakar Company. Karizma ZMR is available in five colors -- Moon Yellow, Pearl White, Vibrant Blue, Panther Black and Sports Red.

Syakar has already sold 200 units of Karizma ZMR in Nepal.

"Hero Honda Karizma is doing well even after we introduced Karizma ZMR in the market," Shrestha said, adding, "The market of Karizma is still strong."

Though Syakar had anticipated that ZMR would replace Karizma in the Nepali market, the demand for Karizma has not gone down. Hero Honda Karizma is available in five colors - Vibrant Blue, Sports Red, Moon Yellow, Black and Force Silver.

Royal Enfield Bullet Electra is another powerful Indian bike selling in Nepal. More than 1,000 units of Bullet Electra have already been sold here.
