Stating that the embassy´s allegations against the Nepali media has violated diplomatic norms, he said, “MoFA has been directed to immediately start investigation into the matter,” Pokharel said, adding, “If there is any issue about the Indian business interests, the embassy can talk to the government.”
Speaking at an interaction organized by Press Chautari here, Pokharel expressed dissatisfaction over the embassy´s move of issuing the statement even when it had appropriate access to the right place to express its grievances.
Pokharel stressed on the freedom of press and hailed the capability of the Nepali media during the program.
The Indian embassy on August 27 had issued a statement saying that the Indian joint ventures in Nepal has informed it that they have been approached by the media houses for release of advertisements and are being threatened with negative publicity if the requests were not met.
The media organizations condemned the statement next day saying the embassy is interfering with the media and the news relating to the JVs were based on government reports.
