PALPA, Sept 12: Acting president of the Nepali Congress Sushil Koirala has said that the Maoists should not be allowed to lead the government and claimed that the current government was capable of completing the task of taking the peace process to its logical end and writing the new constitution on time.

“The Maoists will capture all state power if they come to the government again,” Koirala said at an interaction organized by Nepal Press Union. He added, “When Prachanda had the control, he was trying to usurp all powers.” He further said, “Had the 18 political parties not acted on time, the Maoists would have already captured the whole country.”

Koirala was of the view that the Maoists´ strategy was only aimed at controlling state power. “But we will not let their move succeed,” he said.

Responding to a query on Girija Prasad Koirala being involved in toppling the government, Koirala said the senior Koirala was actually engaged in bringing the Maoists into the government.
