KATHMANDU, March 9: The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) has suspended the Terai-Madhesh awakening campaign, which was focused on the Postal Highway, starting last Sunday.

The campaign, which began on February 24 from Kachankawal in Jhapa, was supposed to continue in Bara, Parsa, and Chitwan today.

After reviewing the national political situation, the Maoists decided to suspend the campaign and return to Kathmandu for the time being.

The leaders are returning to Kathmandu on Sunday. General Secretary Dev Gurung said that the central committee will meet today once all the leaders arrive.

"We are on our way. Once all the leaders arrive, we will hold the central committee meeting today," he said.

General Secretary Gurung explained that they suspended the campaign and returned due to the current situation in the country.

"We will hold a meeting, review all aspects, including the national political situation, and decide on the remaining programs," he said.

The Maoist campaign reached Rautahat after starting in Jhapa. The remaining areas include Bara, Parsa, Chitwan, Nawalpur, Nawalparasi, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Dang, Bardiya, Banke, Kailali, and Kanchanpur.

Most central committee members, including Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, have participated in the campaign.
