A struggle committee of the people affected by the landfill site had yesterday put forward four-point demand and decided to blocl the garbage disposal.
Committee president Ramesh Kumar Poudel said despite the agreement to build a sanitary landfill site in Bancharedanda of Okharpauwa, the government continued dumping the garbage in the Sisdole landfill site beyond the capacity of the site.
The committee said the agreement was reached to dump the garbage in Bandharedanda, but the government continued dumping it at Sisdole and after the Sisdole site was filled, the government started dumping the garbage at Aletar. It said the protest was needed to press the government to implement the agreement.
However, the Garbage Management and Natural Resource Mobilization centre at the Ministry of Local Development said they had agreed to resolve the issue by holding the talks on Monday, but the committee started obstructions before the talks.
Of dour garbage vehicles sent by the KMC for disposal of the garbage, tocals had turned two away. KMC said garbage management has been recurring and the high-level initiative was necessary to solve the issue for long.
Since the KMC started disposing garbage in Sisdole four years ago, garbage disposal has been obstructed for over 200 days in 50 different occasions. Around 935 tons of garbage is generated in the Valley every day.
