KATHMANDU, Feb 23: The film 'Laj Sharanam' which was controversially banned for promotion on social media platforms by the Patan High Court, has received permission to screen across the country. 'Laj Sharanam' will be screened across the country after the Central Board of Film Censor, Kathmandu passed the censorship review. With this, the film is set to be screened from February 26.

The board has stated that a certificate has been issued allowing the screening in accordance with the Section 3, 8(1) of the Motion Picture (Production, Exhibition, and Distribution) Act, 2026 BS.

Former minister Mohammad Aftab Alam had filed a writ petition at the Patan High Court against the film, alleging that the film closely imitated his facial features, attire, physical build, hairstyle, mannerisms and speech. In hearing Alam’s writ, the court had ordered that the film not be promoted or released before the censors.

In the presence of officials from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology including those from the Legal Department, it was concluded that the film's content was normal and that permission could be granted for its screening.
