KATHMANDU, July 21: Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala on Tuesday said that he will now hand over party leadership to new generation and retire from politics.

Addressing a function organized by Nepal Students´ Union (NSU) to mark 26th BP Koirala Memorial Day in the capital, Koirala announced to hand over the party leadership to second generation leaders during the upcoming general convention of the party to be held in November.

Ram Chandra Poudel, Sushil Koirala and Sher Bahadur Deuba are among the second generation leaders of the party. Koirala suggested new leadership to work by keeping in mind the interest of young generation in the party.

On the occasion, Koirala criticized Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal for discrepancy between words and deeds. “He says one thing and does something else. Now I don´t believe his words,” he said.

Koirala said that the latest demand by the Maoists to start the integration of their combatants only after the completion of constitution-drafting process will affect the ongoing peace process. “The Maoist combatants should be integrated as per the Comprehensive Peace Agreement,” he further said.
