KATHMANDU, June 26: Keshab Kumar Bista on Thursday was appointed as the second member secretary of National Sports Council (NSC) replacing Sakuntala Nagarkoti 12 days after her appointment as the executive head of the sport's governing body.

Bista, the acting president of Nepal Confederation of Sports (Necos), a sports wing of CPN-UML and acting president of Nepal Sepak Takraw Association was appointed as the member secretary of the sport's governing body for a four-year term by Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS).

Earlier, on June 15, MoYS had appointed Sakuntala Nagarkoti as NSC member secretary for 'time being' after Yubaraj Lama's four-year term ended on June 12.

A letter signed by Minister for Youth and Sports Purushottam Paudel states that Bista was given the responsibilities of NSC for four years.

Nepal Swimming Association member Rajendra Shrestha and All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) member Mohammad Samimullah were also appointed as NSC members on the same day.

Forty-nine years old Bista who hails from Itahari sub-metropolitan city, is also the former president of Eastern Region Sports Development Committee and vice-president of Sunsari District Sports Development Committee. He has been member of national representative council of the UML.

Soon after assuming his office on Thursday, Bista vowed to bring all stakeholders of sports together for its development. "I am not an unknown face in the sports fraternity as I have been working for the development of Nepali sports for more than two decades. So I am well aware about the problems of Nepali sports and I will be able to sort out all these problems," Bista shared.

"Dispute among sports stakeholders is the major problem of Nepali sports. So I will try to bring all the stakeholders together," he said claiming that his tenure will be a golden era for Nepali sports.

"I will hold discussions with all stakeholders of sports including MoYS, Nepal Olympic Committee, all sports associations, coaches, players and officials of NSC and unite them for achieving our common goals," said Bista, adding that there won't will not by any discrimination over political ideology. He also vowed to give continuity to progressive works of former member secretaries and scrap the wrong policies.

He also said that he would recognize the National Olympic Committee recognized by the Supreme Court.

It may be recalled that Bista was team leader of Sepak Takraw team during 17th Asian Games held in Incheon of South Korea last year when player of the same discipline Aman Pode escaped from the athlete village.

Speaking about the disappearance of Pode, Bista claimed that he was not aware of Aman's plan to flee. He also added the he did not have to submit clarification over the issue.
