According to Cricket Ground Construction Committee member secretary Devendra Parajuli, under the third phase of the project a dozen laborers are leveling the wicket block everyday with roller machines. The ground will be fenced with barbed wire once the wicket block gets constructed, he added.
“If the construction continues without any hindrance, international level cricket matches can be conducted in the stadium from next year,” said Parajuli, adding that pitch construction using black mud would begin after leveling the wicket block. It would take three more months to plant grass in the field before the leveling of ground would start.
The CAN has provided financial support of one million rupees to be disbursed under three phases. It has also assured that it would extend additional financial support for the construction.
As per the plan, the cricket ground in Pokhara would have five pitches. However, only three pitches will be constructed now as it will be difficult to manage five pitches at a time, stated Parajuli.
The Pokhara stadium has provided 80 ropanies of land to Kaski Cricket Association as per the decision of the government. The CAN is also planning to construct international level cricket ground in Kathmandu and regional level in Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj, Birgunj and Biratnagar.
