Binod Raj Gyawali, managing director of Nepal Republic Media, and Randy Weddle, managing director of IHT, Asia-Pacific, signed and exchanged an agreement reached between the two publishing companies amidst a special function held in Kathmandu, Wednesday evening.

Speaking at the function, Managing Director of IHT, Asia-Pacific, Weddle said the signing of the contract between Nepal Republic Media and IHT represents IHT’s fifth such publishing alliance in Asia and the 12th in the world. “…printing the International Herald Tribune in Kathmandu means that we now print the newspaper in 18 cities in Asia-Pacific and 40 cities around the globe,” he said.

“Our mission is to enhance the global community by creating and distributing quality news, business and entertainment content. That is a tall order and we approach it by insisting that the journalism we approach is of the highest quality and credibility,” he added.

“A further part of that mission involves making sure that this journalism is available far and wide, in every corner of the globe,” Weddle further added.

In his video message from IHT Headquarters in Paris, IHT publisher Stephen Dunbar Johnson expressed delight over the beginning of the publication of the newspaper from Kathmandu.

Editor-in-Chief of Republica Ameet Dhakal said, “We are adding new chapter in Nepal’s press journalism history by entering into the publishing alliance with the IHT.

“We are publishing the only truly global newspaper from Kathmandu. We are confident that you will relish it.

“We feel really proud with this partnership”, he added.

IHT is a premier international newspaper for opinion leaders and decision-makers around the globe. It combines the extensive resources of its own correspondents with those of The New York Times, and is currently for sale in more than 180 countries. Based in Paris since 1887, IHT is owned by The New York Times Company.
