Hong Kong Rana acquitted in Chase Air scam

KATHMANDU, March 25: Supreme Court on Wednesday acquitted Hong Kong Rana, executive director of then Royal Nepal Airlines when CPN-UML was in power in 1998, in Chase Air scam.

Acting on an appeal filed by Rana who was slapped three years jail by Special Court about six years ago, a joint bench of justices Anup Raj Sharma and Mohan Prakash Sitaula gave clean cheat to Rana.

Special Court had found Rana involved in corruption while taking aircraft from US-based Chase Air on lease in 1998 for the state-owned airlines company.

Chase Air case was one of the high-profile scams that took place whe the CPN-UML was in power . Yam Lal Kandel was tourism minister when the scam took place.
