Government employees launched protests against the government after Finance Minister Surendra Pandey in his budget speech announced a dearness allowance ranging from 10 to 12 percent of civil servant´s salaries earlier this week, but no increment in salary.[break]
"The government is positive toward the employees´ demand for salary increment and wants to resolve this issue through dialogue today (Thursday) itself," said government spokesperson and Minister for Information and Communication, Shankar Pokharel.
"A cabinet meeting scheduled to take place later today will take decision over the matter," Pokharel said.
The cabinet meeting also discussed cholera spread Jajarkot and other mid-western districts.
During the protests, the agitating government employees prevented vehicles of minister, secretaries and other high-ranking officials from entering Singhadurbar, sending the central secretariat complext into complete disarray ever since the budget announcement.
