KATHMANDU, Feb 21: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has issued a travel advisory regarding travel to Thailand and Myanmar.
The MoFA in a statement on Thursday urged Nepali citizens traveling to Thailand and Myanmar to be cautious.
The MoFA has also asked for special vigilance, stating that Nepali citizens are at risk due to human trafficking, fraud, and other criminal activities seen in these countries.
The travel advisory issued by the ministry mentions incidents where Nepalis being lured by lucrative employment opportunities, especially in the information technology (IT) sector. The ministry has urged people not to be tempted by attractive jobs with lucrative salaries.
The ministry has said that it has received reports of Nepali youth being lured and exploited in Thailand and Myanmar on the pretext of high salaries and facilities.
According to the MoFA, the number of Nepali people being forcibly taken to risky areas of Myanmar via Thailand has increased significantly in recent times. Incidents of Nepalis being subjected to inhuman exploitation, physical and mental torture and the cases of holding them hostage are coming to the light lately
The ministry has also asked to contact the MoFA or the Nepali embassy before accepting any suspicious job offer. The government has requested to contact the nearest embassy or relevant government bodies if further information and assistance is required in this regard.
