BIM
A Bachelor of Information Management (BIM) degree is an undergraduate academic degree which extends over 8 semesters (4 academic years). Four years of study in the comprehensive syllabus helps a BIM graduate to get straight entry into the Master Degree program in any of the recognized universities worldwide.
The BIM program is designed to equip graduates with the skills and attributes required to become efficient and effective IT professionals to match up with the fast-paced world of today.
“The main aim of the BIM program is to develop socially responsive and result-oriented IT professionals,” said Bishwa Raj Bajracharya, coordinator of BIM at Prime College at Naya Bazaar in Kathmandu.
He further added that the course develops the skills of students and lets them understand the trends of software development and database management so that they can analyze information systems and consequently manage the information corpus of the organization. Adding to that, BIM also provides professional education to students with the blend of information technology and managerial skills, and prepares students to proceed onto the post-graduate level of study in IT.
“Demand for IT professionals is extensively growing .Therefore, the Faculty of Management (FOM) at the Tribhuvan University has developed its BIM program to accommodate the needs of this trend,” Bajracharya added.
With the completion of the BIM program, students will be exposed to a wide variety and choices of employment opportunities and possibilities of further degrees.
“BIM program provides students with diverse future prospects for advance studies, along with rewarding employment opportunities,” opined Bajracharya and added, “BIM graduates can find jobs in almost every work arena as software engineers, programmers, or analysts, system designers, network managers, database managers, and trainers or instructors.”
Bajracharya even added that students have a misconception that BIM is just a core IT program; but it is the fusion of 60% of information technology and 40% of management courses.
BIM provides students with an understanding of the principles and operations of business, and the importance of the computer as a management tool. It does so through planning, control, and decision-making activities of the organization. So the students of BIM program will have knowledge of design, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and computer hardware.
Thus, as a whole, the course provides professional training to students by combining Information Technology with managerial expertise.
The Prime College at Naya Bazaar incorporates the BIM program, and students can contact the college for more information.

Some students know early on that a career in medicine is their future, and their level of commitment to this goal, their maturity, and their academic achievements set them apart. For those students, the B.S./M.D. Accelerated Course of Study offers them the chance to complete for both a B.S. degree in Biology as well as an M.D. degree – all in only seven years.
B.S./M.D. is a special track of course developed for a small number of motivated and mature high school students who intend to pursue careers in medicine. B.S is Bachelor of Science in Biology, and M.D refers to Doctor in Medicine.
The goal of this innovative program is to produce highly qualified medical doctors in a shorter period than would be required for completion of the two degrees if taken separately.
“Almost all students apply for the medical course in Nepal. But only students around 1,200 will be selected, and the remaining ones apply for abroad studies,” Rajendra Ghising, chief administrator of GEMS College, said.
He also mentioned that as abroad studies would be very much expensive, all students may not afford it. Thus, B.S./MD studies have been started in Nepal as an affordable and a qualittative option.
Ghising also shared that students all over the world follow either the British education system or the American one. In the British system, MBBS is a primary degree of medical course. It is done when one’s 12th class is cleared; while in the US, MD is the primary degree. It is done after completing Bachelor’s in any science subject. Therefore, in this context, MD is a higher doctorate degree done after completing Bachelor’s in any science subject.
Students accepted for this program complete the first three years of the recommended undergraduate biology curriculum. Students are awarded the B.S. degree after successful completion of the first year of medical school, and are then awarded the M.D. degree after successful completion of all medical school requirements.
GEMS College at Dhapakhel of Patan runs B.S./MD program. For further details, students can contact the college.
