KATHMANDU, May 24: The first edition of ECAN Higher Education and Career Fair is all set to take place. Scheduled to start in Pokhara from June 4-6, the higher education and career fair is promoted by Republica National Daily and has been jointly organized by Education Consultants Association of Nepal (ECAN) and Direction Nepal.

Previously Direction Nepal and ECAN organized education fairs separately. Come 2010 the two big players of the field merge together to bring all the national and international educational institutions together for more effective, productive and close interaction to share their knowledge, experience and formulate result-oriented strategies.[break]

“ECAN and Direction Nepal merged because ECAN focuses more on studies abroad while we focus on colleges in Nepal,” says Ramesh Thapa of Direction Nepal adding, “So the students will get information about colleges and opportunities in Kathmandu and at the same time they can get information about studying abroad.”

The ECAN Higher Education and Career Fair is a give and take fair for education institution adds Thapa. “The colleges outside Kathmandu can see, and perhaps learn, how the colleges are being operated inside the capital city and vice-versa,” informs Thapa.

The four-day fair is slated to be organized in Kathmandu from June 10-13 at Bhrikuti Mandap. The fair is scheduled in Narayanghat from June 4-6.

According to ECAN and Direction Nepal, the fair will provide a platform for educational and training institutions with different pavilions including the IT, polytechnics, computer schools, abroad study consultancies, and training institutions.

Rajendra Baral, General Secretary of ECAN, says, “The event would not only help students get an admission in foreign universities but also give them knowledge about the procedures and requirements to go abroad.” This will definitely help students as they are not aware of the application procedures and fall prey to consultancies that are solely open to earn hard cash and not help students.

During the ECAN Education and Career Fair, you will see national universities, colleges, educational clubs and associations, recruitment agencies, educational loan provider, abroad study consultancies, training institutes, psychological counseling and libraries participating in the event. Also, Nepali universities and colleges are set to show off their strengths to the students proving that Nepal can provide equally good education.

“We are expecting a large number of student’s to participate in the career fair,” says a hopeful Thapa of Direction Nepal.

The event will also be holding seminars and talks by various experts on higher education and career prospects. The fair will start from 11am and end at 5pm every day during the event at all three locations.
