KATHMANDU, April 4: British Ambassador to Nepal John Tucknott called on Maoist Vice-chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai at the latter´s residence at Sanepa on Monday and expressed concern over the stalled peace process and fluid political situation in the country.

"We want the peace process to reach its logical conclusion, it should not get derailed from its normal path," Bhattarai´s aide Biswadeep Pandey quoted Tucknott as saying during the meeting. [break]

According to Pandey, the British envoy also asked Bhattarai about his party´s plan regarding the peace process and the likely political scenario around May 28, the deadline for constitution-drafting.

"We are serious about concluding the peace process and constitution-drafting through national consensus," Pandey quoted Bhattarai as saying.

According to him, Bhattarai assured the British envoy that his party would hold serious talks with other political parties and put in best efforts to clear the existing atmosphere of political mistrust in order to forge consensus.

"I expect UK´s role in facilitating the conclusion of the peace process," Pandey quoted Bhattarai as telling Tucknott.
