Baniya to leave for India<br/>Kailali FA polls postponed

KATHMANDU, July 14: Former national volleyball player Dinesh Baniya, who is in need of a kidney transplant, is finally leaving for India for treatment. Baniya said he was thankful to everyone for supporting him in such difficult times. “I hope that no sportsperson will have to face similar predicament,” he said. [break]



Nepal Sports Council member secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha and National and International Players´ Association President Deepak Bista wished Baniya success for his transplant and hoped to see Baniya contribute to Nepalese sports after his treatment. The Association handed over Rs 1.75 million to Baniya.









Kailali FA polls postponed



DHANGADHI, July 14: Kailali District Football Association´s election, scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed amid controversy.



Clubs affiliated to Nepal Football Association (NFA) argued that the elections were one sided though an agreement had been reached to conduct the polls by accommodating both the football associations.



However, Kailali Football Association stated that the elections were going to be held in accordance to the directives from the center.When the row erupted, election officer Ganesh Nepali declared the postponement of the elections.





Suraj, Gyanu into quarters



KATHMANDU, July 14: Suraj Shrestha and Gyanu Chaudhary advanced into the quarterfinals of the ongoing Second CG Open Squash Tournament on Tuesday under men´s open category held at the Squash Center, Satdobato.



Suraj Shrestha defeated Kiran Maharjan 3-1 and Gyanu Chaudhary won 3-2 in the best of five sets. Likewise, Amrit Thapa beat Binod Ratna Shakya, Sudip Bahadur Singh beat Rajendra Bhakta Shrestha, Prajwal Pradhan beat Surendra Suwal, Suresh Gurung beat Rabin Shakya and Lokendra Man Singh beat Bash Lama with equal 3-0 to book place in the quarterfinal round.



In the veteran´s open, Rajendra Bhakta Shrestha and Amar Rana advanced into the second round winning their respective matches. In women´s open, Kshitiz Gurung defeated Krishna Thapa in her first round match.
