On Monday, Deepak Shrestha won gold for Army beating Bhupendra Thapa of Nepal Police Club on the basis of points in the final of the men´s 54 kg category to add to the overnight tally of one gold secured by Prem Chaudhary on Sunday.[break]
In the men´s 69 kg weight category, Army´s Bishnu Ghale registered a technical knockout victory over his club-mate Min Kumar Gurung to secure another gold for the champion.
Likewise, Army´s Ujjwal Singh Thapa reinforced the departmental team´s dominance by clinching gold in an all-Army final of the men´s 75 kg category. Thapa secured a technical knockout victory over his club-mate Chiranjeevi Belbase.
Shyam Khadka added another gold for Army in the men´s above 91 kg category defeating Sandesh Limbu of Kathmandu in the final.
In other matches held on Monday, Dinesh Shrestha of Nepal Police Club (NPC) won gold in men´s 56 kg beating Mahesh Ale Magar of Sunsari in the final.
Meanwhile, Purna Bahadur Lama of Armed Police Force (APF) defeated Army´s Dan Bahadur Darlami in the final of men´s 60 kg to take gold.
Asian Games bronze medalist Deepak Maharjan of Kathmandu lived up to the hype as he secured a technical knockout victory against Dipesh Lama of Army in the final of men´s 81 kg.
In men´s 91 kg, Max Basnet of Lalitpur saw off Army´s Ghanashyam Budha to clinch gold.
In the women´s section, Pramila Pandey of APF secured gold in the 48 kg category. Pandey defeated Mina Ghale of Kathmandu in the final.
Likewise, Maya Chaudhary of APF beat Nanja Budha Magar of Rolpa to win gold in the women´s 51 kg weight category.
In the women´s 54 kg category, Minu Gurung of Army clinched gold beating Nisha Tamang of NPC in the final.
APF duo Sanju Lama (women´s 57 kg) and Saraswati Rana (women´s 60 kg) also won golds in their respective categories. Lama defeated Shilu Dangol while Rana ousted Niru Gurung for gold. The losing finalists of both the categories were from Army.
Army bagged the best player awards in both the men´s and women´s categories.
Army´s Deepak Shrestha (men´s 64 kg) and Minu Gurung (women´s 54 kg) were adjudged the best players. They received Rs 6,000 each.
All 10 pugilists who won gold medals in the men´s section will be included in the national team. Altogether 105 boxers from three departmental teams and 12 districts had participated in the five-day tournament.
