AIG Shahi, SP Neupane released on bail

KATHMANDU, Aug 8: Suspended AIG Arjun Jung Shahi and SP Manoj Neupane were both released on bail on Monday.

The Special Court bench led by Chairman Gauri Bahadur Karki and shared by members Om Prakash Mishar and Kedar Prasad Chalise had sought a bail amount of Rs 500000 from Shahi and Rs 1.5 million from Neupane at the end of a preliminary hearing over the graft charges filed against them.[break]

While Shahi posted cash on par with the sought bail amount, Neupane furnished bank guarantee. The Century Commercial Bank offered the guarantee on behalf of Neupane.

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed corruption cases against 34 police officials, including Shahi and Neupane, accusing them of embezzling about Rs 290 million while procuring and supplying Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) and other logistics to Nepali peacekeepers deployed in Darfur, Sudan.
