KATHMANDU, May 21: Bosses of Unity Life International, who have been absconding for the last three days to avoid police arrest, are in regular contact with top political leaders to settle Nepal´s biggest fraud case.

Sources close of Kashi Ram (Prasad) Gurung, president of Unity Life International, informed myrepublica.com that he has been in telephone conversation with top leaders of major political parties, pleading with them to help settle the case. Gurung has been urging the leaders to help him by issuing a directive through the Department of Commerce legalizing service business through network marketing, said a source. [break]

Nepali Congress leader Arjun Narsingh KC admitted that he had received phone calls from Unity officials. "We are being seen in a prejudiced manner," KC quoted the officials as complaining to him.

The Unity officials had complained that they were denied any chance to legalize their business and correct the legal loopholes.

KC said various people call up and speak of their problems. "Sometimes the victims call us for help while some other times those placing others under injustice make the calls," he said. "They complain that they are being done injustice to."

KC said he told them that he would try to learn what the matter was.

When contacted, the leaders of other political parties denied having any contact with Unity bosses.

The source further said that Gurung is also in regular contact with close aides and he has been repeatedly assuring them that he will settle the whole affair by Monday.

Gurung is using all possible means to contact Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal but his attempts are being obstructed by the ongoing police search, informed the source. "I am confident I can convince the prime minister if I get a chance to meet him just once," Gurung was quoted by the source as saying.

Gurung has said that he has a plan to return the membership and service fees to those members who have not yet received any commission, said the source. The total cost of that will be around one billion rupees and Gurung has no problem managing that sum, as he has accounts in more than 15 commercial banks, he was quoted as saying.

Police seize Unity headquarters

A join team comprising representatives of the Department of Revenue Investigation, the Metropolitan Police Range Lalitpur and Lalitpur District Administration Office broke through the electronically controlled doors at Unity´s head office at Jawalakhel on Thursday and confiscated documents and laptops.

Chief District Officer of Lalitpur Ranta Raj Panday told myrepublica.com that the three agencies have agreed to work together on the case. Pandey also said experts from the Central Police Forensic Laboratory and the Central Police Computer Forensic Laboratory have been called in to crack and retrieve computer and other complicated information.

Metropolitan Police chief Bikram Thapa said the team has begun initial investigations over the case and started the procedures to acquire relevant documents from the banking and insurance sectors.
