ITAHARI, Feb 5: Six Maoist cadres accused of abducting two businessmen have been released on bail following pressure from their party.

The police had arrested Tanka Basnet, Ramesh Dahal, Dipak Rai, Indu Silwal, Krishna Magar and Suraj Silwal for allegedly abducting Sankhuwasabha-based businessman Pasang Sherpa and his friend Kasi Karki from Majalu Hotel last week.

The Maoists had warned of an indefinite shutdown in Sunsari from Saturday demanding that those arrested be released. The District Administration Office said that the accused were released on bail amounting Rs 500, said Chief District Officer Ram Prasad Thapaliya.

But Maoist district in-charge Kedar Guragain said that his cadres were released unconditionally. They have withdrawn the indefinite shutdown following the release of their cadres.
