10 injured as NA convoy overturns in Bhedetar

KATHMANDU, Oct 20: Ten people including nine Nepal Army personnel were injured when a military van, Lu 1 Ga 96, bound for Dhankuta from Itahari-based Eastern Division of the Nepal Army (NA) turned turtle at Bhedetar in Dhankuta district on Sunday afternoon.

The injured are identified as sergeants Hem Bahadur and Dil Bahadur Rana Magar, corporal Hem Bahadur Thapa, lance corporals Narendra Rai, driver Mani Raj Adhikari and Hem Narayan Chaudhary.

Likewise, injured in the incident are gunners, Khada Nanda Bhusal, Som Lal Tharu, Dipak Oli and biker Ramesh Sahi, said Sub Inspector Bhakta Bahadur Limbu, in-charge of Bhendetar Police Post. [break]

Shahi, who was going along with the military van, riding a motorcycle, O 4 Pa 8811, got injured after the van banged his motorbike from behind, said police.

All the injured have been taken to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan for treatment.

Of the injured, the condition of driver LC Mani Raj Adhikari is said to be critical.

Break failure is said to be the cause behind the incident, according to SI Limbu.

The incident took place when the military van was heading to Dhankuta ferrying  Nepal Army personnel from the  Eastern Division as part of Integrated Security Plan for the upcoming Constituent Assembly elections.
