KMC allocates Rs 1 billion budget to make Kathmandu 'dust-free’

KATHMANDU, June 25: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has announced to continue the ‘dust-free Kathmandu’ campaign in the upcoming fiscal year as well.

The campaign has been included in the budget for the fiscal year 2023/24 announced by Sunita Dangol, the deputy mayor of the metropolis, during the executive meeting of the metropolitan city on Sunday. According to her, an amount of Rs 1 billion has been allocated for the ‘dust-free Kathmandu’ campaign.

Deputy Mayor Dangol said that Rs 7.34 billion has been allocated for the construction and improvement of the public infrastructure within the metropolis with the successive plan of the last fiscal year.

KMC has allocated a substantial amount of Rs 70 million for solid waste management in the upcoming fiscal year.

Additionally, KMC has allocated Rs 3.800 billion for the Metropolis Pride Project, focusing on 10 thematic areas. Furthermore, a budget of Rs 2 billion has been designated for 25 thematic sector schemes under the Metropolis Golden Project.

To support projects received from the wards and prioritize their plans, allocation of Rs 1.76 billion has been made.

Within the budget, Rs 500 million has been allocated for the 'Garikhane Sikshya, Mahanagar Ko Ichhya' program which emphasizes practical education, while another Rs 1 billion has been allocated for the 'Rojgari ra Aayebriddi Mahanagar ko Samriddhi' program which focus on increasing employment opportunities, income and prosperity of the metropolis. The budget specifically mentions the utilization of the 'Job Link App' to facilitate employment by connecting job seekers with employers.
