Winter Jackets for Men

Not only women, men are also freely expressing themselves in fashion in recent time. They can be seen at shopping malls buying and looking for clothes. Besides, they keep updating themselves in terms of fashion. Be it watching videos on YouTube or reading relevant articles, they are closely following the fashion industry.

As seasons keep changing, fashion style also changes simultaneously. Throughout an entire season, men transform themselves to look fashionable. Apart from winter season, all seasons are suitable to opt a right outfit. However, it is a daunting task for men to choose right clothes. The mercury levels gradually keep plunging throughout winters. Sights of men clad in thick sweaters or bulky jackets can be seen in the streets. Besides, clothing stores and malls around the town also display warm and heavy winter attires.

In the past, armies wore bulky coats and jackets to protect themselves in wars during winters. However, with the changing time, men also yearned to keep themselves warm and stylish in winter.  They also maintain their fashion sense while layering their body from the cold. Acknowledging the dilemma, various clothing stores in Nepal are introducing winter outfits keeping in mind the product attribute like style, durability and design. 

 Leather Jacket 
In the primitive era, human wore animal skin to beat the winter. Then, only fighter pilots put on a leather bomber during the First World War. But as time passed by, it became a trend followed and endorsed by various Hollywood actors including James Stewart and others. 

The craze of flaunting a leather jacket is also rising amidst men in Nepal.  According to Bilal Ahmed Shah, CEO and Founder of Latido Leathers, Jhamsikhel, about 80% of men are purchasing leather jackets from his shop.  “Throughout the four years since our establishment, customized genuine leather jackets are men’s cup of tea. Initially, a lot of people barely had any fashion sense about the leather jackets. Today, not only youth, elder people are also buying leather goods from our stores. Moreover, there has been a rapid rise the number of retailers of leather jackets in Kathmandu,” Shah added. 

“Most of the men in Kathmandu ride motorcycles. Consequently, they buy leather jackets not only to keep the body warm but also to look stylish.”

Woolen Jackets
How can you overlook a woolen jacket during the winter season? Winter will surely be incomplete without wearing a warm woolen jacket. It embodies the warmth and coziness one seeks for during the winters. The crimps of woolen outfits made from sheep and yak wool blocks the inflow of chilled air. This makes you feel warm.

In every nooks and corners of this city, especially in Thamel; the tourist hub, woolen jackets are flaunted in every other clothing stores. Besides, you can see people wearing and buying woolen jackets in Thamel. 

Nishan Ghimire, a student in Japan was spotted at the Sandeep Enterprises shop in Thamel. He was choosing a woolen jacket. “Usually in winter, there are severe snowfalls in Japan. So during my stay in Nepal, I came here to buy woolen jackets. Apart from making me feel warm, it also reflects the Nepali culture,” Ghimire shared.

Sanjita Pandey, a salesperson at Pelage Exporters Pvt Ltd, Thamel said that tentatively 30 to 35 pieces of woolen jackets are sold out on a daily basis. “We are selling plain and animal printed woolen jackets. Men prefer animal printed colorful woolen jackets to simple plain jackets.”

Down Jacket
Besides style and warmth, men mostly adore comfortable and light winter outfit. Gone are the days when men used to attire themselves in heavy jackets. Things are not the same as before. A light down jacket is quite common among men since it is warm and also resilient. You look stylish and your body is also warm at the same time. 

On Sunday afternoon, Bhesh Rai, owner of Kalapatthar Trekking Store, Thamel, was busy. The store was jam-packed; filled with customers. Majority of them were men, looking for jackets to fight the winter.  

Shyam Dhungel, sales manager of Bishal Group, was looking for a down jacket. Finally, he bought a blue, ‘North Face’ tagged down jacket.  “It is flexible and easy to carry. It also protects me from cold, especially while riding my motorcycle,” said Dhungel.

Rai also admits that men are increasingly buying down jackets from his store. “In the past few years, the demand for down jackets is increasing among men. Even older people prefer a light down jacket over a heavy one,” he said. “The price of these jackets is reasonable, ranging from Rs 1,000 up to 4,000 depending on  the thickness of the jacket.”
