To The Introverts

To The Introverts

The introvert who is curled up with a book in a coffee shop
While everyone is talking,
The introvert who is struggling to make eye contact,
Even with the shopkeeper in the pharmacy.

The introvert who tries so hard to raise voice, but go unnoticed,
The introvert who listens to everyone, but is never listened to,
To the extroverts,
I’m not you.

I’m not you so don’t tell me to scream,
My lungs out in front of a million people,
I’m not you so don’t ask me,
To go crack jokes in front of a group of strangers.

I’m not you, so don’t you dare ask me to be more expressive,
I’m not you,
And you’re not me,
We are not alike.

You like being around others,
While I’d rather crawl into the shadows,
Your mouth explodes with ideas,
While my mind explodes with thoughts.

You allow people to see yourself, but I hesitate,
Don’t tell me to become like you, because I won’t,
Teach me to cherish who I am
And teach me to grow like you do.

You and I are different,
Ground me on how to become social,
And I’ll show you how to think deeper,
You and I must learn to grow with each other.

For you are an extrovert,
And I am not,
And I am an introvert,
And you aren’t.
